Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be entering three (or more if I get crazy) cakes in a cake contest on www.threadcakes.com. The premise of the contest is to take one or more of the shirts the site sells and translate the design into cake form. I'm really excited about this and have already chosen some designs. The contest requires each cake entry be accompanied by photos showing the entire process, from baking to eating. This means you'll get a glimpse into what goes into making a 3-D sculpted cake. Yay for you!
As I post them, I'm going to ask that you visit their website and vote on my cakes. The competition is pretty stiff and last year's winner was adorable but I'm going to do my cake best.
Thanks and check back often!

Carousel Cake
This cake was for a birthday party at Faust Park. I have to say that this one might be my favorite.

This was also the first cake I've ever done that I did the finish assembly on site. This is how it looked before we boxed it up.

This was at the party. I hope she enjoyed it.

Couch Monkey
This cake was for my friend Gwen's birthday. She is an avid blogger (http://www.everythingilikecausescancer.blogspot.com/) and a lover of all things monkey so I incorporated both into her cake. The couch comes from her home page graphic.

My camera was not focusing properly so my apologies for the blur. I'm hoping to get more pictures of the cake soon.
Monte Carlo Night
So, I was asked to make a 1973 Monte Carlo cake. I love a challenge. However, gravity does not love me and it decided to take the back end off so from the front, cake Monte Carlo. From the back, squint.

The client loved it anyway so that's all that matters.
